Richard L. Cookson

Prior to forming the Brockton Law Group, Mr. Cookson was a Chief Deputy District Attorney with the Riverside District Attorney’s Office where he oversaw court operations for the Riverside office, giving him overall responsibility for the general felony trial teams and preliminary hearing unit, the misdemeanor trials unit, the drug prosecution unit, and the criminal complaints unit.

Prior to his promotion to Chief DDA, Mr. Cookson served as a Supervising Deputy District Attorney in both the Indio and Riverside offices, where he directly supervised the preliminary hearing unit, the drug unit, and the criminal complaints unit in both offices. Mr. Cookson’s unique experience in supervising the many different units in both major offices gives him “that insider’s edge” in criminal defense that his clients are looking for in their attorney.

With nearly 23 years as a prosecutor, Mr. Cookson has successfully tried before a jury many cases ranging from simple thefts and DUIs to large cartel drug cases and murder. Mr. Cookson’s recognized legal knowledge and trial skills has gained him a reputation within the legal community as an aggressive litigator who knows the law , and is the “go-to” person for answers on all questions of law and trial advocacy.

The focus of Mr. Cookson’s practice with the Brockton Law Group is in the areas of family law, bankruptcy, and criminal law. This blend of practice areas allows Mr. Cookson to be a true legal counsel—one who is always available, willing and able to advise and represent his clients on all their legal concerns.
